We should all be rich!!!
I bought the latest "Real Living " magazine when standing at the checkout...thought it might motivate me to tidy the house.
I think "Real living" may be stretching it a bit, see this quilt?
Well, it is coolly priced at $880!! There is a bit of ric-rac on it, the fabric is eclectic and I can recognize some 70's/80's in there and it is machine quilted about an inch in from the seams but more a day's work than a week's. It probably is worth good money, but we would all be rich if we could make quilts for what they are actually worth!!
Addition to post: obviously I am not the only one who thinks this is big money, I got $160 for a patchwork doona cover once, otherwise I don't do much paid work on quilts, other that $40-$50 quickies for fundraiser prizes. What is the most you have ever earnt from a quilt project?
$880! Are you kidding???
ReplyDeleteI love the photos of the chicken/rooster hatching. Did the little one come out?
If that quilt is worth $880 then mine are worth $10,000! I wonder if there's a market? The hatching chicks was very interesting.
ReplyDeleteOops! I didn't read far enough. I did see the photos of the little guy. He's adorable.
ReplyDeleteThat is unbelievable! Such a simple quilt! I haven't even tried to sell anything as your right - you just can't get the $ it is worth.
ReplyDeleteFor throwing some squares together and adding some rick-rack ..... hmmmm - a little outrageous I think.
ReplyDeleteWow, that sure is alot of cash to part with. Not long after I got to the US a chap and his wife at church wanted a quilt put together and quilted. It took forever to do and was huge and also needed some repairs I charged $500.
ReplyDeleteHaven't ever tried selling anything...maybe I should start?!!!
ReplyDeleteI sold a queen sized quilt (that in addition to purchasing the fabric & paying for long arming/binding attaching) for about $200. But I was happy, because the fabric was so not me....
ReplyDeleteI forgot - thanks for sharing the photo - now I want to ric-rac something...
ReplyDeleteWhen I show friends what I make the response is often 'You should sell them' - my response back is 'You wouldn't be able to afford it'. However, if I made just a simple quilt like that they might just be able to! (If I charged a realistic price of course, and not the magazine price)
ReplyDeleteI often see quilts here for that price - I think that is why most people are not selling their work - it is too hard to get those kind of prices for quilts.
ReplyDeleteMost handcrafts here are pricey.
BTW here is Ontario, Canada.
Thats ridiculous! Mind you, we can wish!
ReplyDeleteThanks for looking in to Kaiys blog. :-)
I had a small quilting business a couple of years ago, making photo quilts. I used to charge $250 and could be done with a "large twin" in a weekend. They sold like hotcakes, and my cost was $USD50-75. They'd still sell like crazy but I just don't have the time.
ReplyDeleteThe ric-rack is adorable! I'll have to incorporate that sometime soon.
Thanks for the chicky pics, they are precious.
Good grief, it really is only squares after all, it's not like there's intricate cutting or sewing involved. Anyway, that light coloured quilt cover isn't "real living" here, not with a dark coloured cat who likes to curl up on our bed, LOL. I've never made a quilt to sell anyway, they've only been for gifts, but I have paid around $150 for custom quilting done, but then that was for our own quilt, of which I still haven't sewn the darn edging on two years later. Hmmmmmmm. Must get onto that. LOL
ReplyDeleteI dislike trying to sell my quilts, which I have only done a couple of times at art fairs. I much prefer giving them away. I sold one for $65, I think.. just a simple lap quilt, hand quilted.
